About Me

The Blog

This is a blog of my journey in the world of eating and drinking.  I am no expert and am certainly not an authority, but I believe I have a decent palate and I try to do right, whether by myself or by the hardworking souls who devote their lives to creating experiences for us.

What does this blog bring that most others don't?  Firstly, the reviews you read here are, 99.9% of the time, fully paid for by yours truly.  The only exception to this rule is when I receive a specific commission from a publication and need to visit specific establishments to fulfil the commission (and I will disclose this in the piece).  Secondly, I am independent of any restaurants and other corporate interests, and have refused numerous offers to write "advertorials" on this blog.

As I have a full-time job outside of F&B, I have limited time to devote to my writing, so you won’t read about every cafe I visit.  If there is something which I hope will be of interest to you, whether because it’s a special event or a place that is not often reviewed and is worthy of greater publicity, I would love to share it with you.
The Writer
I have been writing about food, wine and travel since 2004.  A thirty-something who unfortunately (or should that be fortunately?) works in an area utterly unrelated to matters gastronomic, my work been published in The Star (Malaysia), Flavours (Malaysia and Singapore), Appetite (Singapore), Epicure (Singapore) and other food and wine / lifestyle publications in the region.  I was named the 2012 Montblanc Food Writer of the Year at the Singapore World Gourmet Series Awards of Excellence and was a voter ("Academy Member", to give myself the pompous official nomenclature) for the World's 50 Best Restaurants and Asia's 50 Best Restaurants from 2010 to 2015.
As the years go by, I find myself appreciating more and more the blog format, the freedom to write what I want to, the ability to convey a personal voice, the ability to not be edited down to 500 words when I think the subject deserves more.
