List of BYO Restaurants in KL and the Klang Valley, Malaysia - Corkage-Free or Otherwise

(Last updated on 18 April 2017)

Do you love your wine?  More specifically, do you love taking your own wine to restaurants, whether to ensure you have a wine you like with your meal, or to simply avoid getting ripped off by avaricious sommeliers and restaurant owners?

Apparently a lot of us do, because my directory of BYO restaurants in Singapore has been the most popular post on this blog for the last three and a bit years, and is still going strong.  And a huge part of that reason is that if you do care about your wine, and are drinking something decent, chances are you will save a bit of money even after stumping up for the corkage charge.

I seem to have been visiting KL a fair bit in recent months, so I thought it was about time I helped out my Klang Valley readers with a similar list.  We start out short, and I hope my Malaysian readers can help me build this list and keep it updated, as a useful resource for our fellow winos.

Self-portrait when I see restaurant wine prices
Before you all jump on me and accuse me of being a snob / wanker for listing mostly atas restaurants here, please bear in mind that the vast bulk of informal and old-school (especially) Chinese restaurants do not charge corkage.  To list every popular Chinese restaurant that doesn't charge corkage would be a too-massive undertaking, so please do not take it that I am disregarding such establishments.  That said, most such restaurants also do not provide decent wine glasses and service, so caveat bibitor please (and bring your own stemware and corkscrew if you are feeling paranoid).

BYO policies, just like politicians' policies, change like the wind.  While I will try to stay on top of such changes, can I please recommend you call ahead to the restaurants to confirm your corkage arrangements. Also, in the parlance of the Interwebs, YMMV (your mileage may vary), especially if you are a VVIP, IWFSer, loyal customer, freebie-scavenging food blogger, or you have a very sexy voice over the telephone and can convince the manager to agree a corkage waiver.

And of course, if you are a representative of a restaurant in the Klang Valley with a competitive BYO policy, please reach out to me (from your official email address) and share your establishment's BYO policy so I can publish it here and give you some free publicity.  But if you change your policy without letting me know, and a reader gets caught out and gives me a bollocking for not updating this list, I reserve my rights to bollock you also.  Can?

    1. Thanks Tori, I was going to use a scene from Hieronymus Bosch's "Hell" to depict the torment of having to choose from an overpriced and limited wine list. But I thought it may be a bit too much: sommeliers generally don't have horns and tails, after all ;)
